The
House We Lived
in
House we
lived in was a
hundred year
old , structured
in traditional,
ancient style,
pillared in
the spacious hall
of
sturdy beams: sturdy
stalks
of
wooden beams across
supporting
inmates for more
than
hundred years. Pillars
with ornamental paintings
delving into
history.Oft,
heard grandparents
narrating
in earnest,
how they carried
brick by brick mixed with
lime and jiggery to
fortify
structure and until demolition
it
became very difficult .
No horse,
but cows and cats
I have
even heard birth pangs
Of cow yielding calf Even
Special provisions for birds
to
Build nests and
chirp and stay
Undisturbed. Only winds
can undo.
All are blessed
souls, thank God
Gone away before
the dreadful
Era began. I
can still smell
The aura of
puddings and
Sweets flavoured with ghee
Hung in a corner of
kitchen
In vessels
hung from above.
The way we
used to live
Generations came
and gone
Until the
wretched hand s
Of builders began demolition.
Our House
lives ever in memory.
